We’re thrilled to announce that kayaking is officially back at The Frank Chapman Outdoor Education Centre — and it’s making waves in the best possible way!

"... kayaking isn't just fun; delivered well it's full of transferable benefits that ripple far beyond the water."

After several years away, this much-loved activity has returned, adding even more excitement, challenge, and learning to the residential experience we offer. Whether it’s a pupil’s first time on the water or a chance to build on existing skills, kayaking is a powerful tool for growth and discovery.

MADE POSSIBLE BY GENEROSITY

This reintroduction has been made possible thanks to a generous contribution from The George & Thomas Henry Salter Trust, along with proceeds from our very own Fundraising Gift Shop.

You know those souvenirs and keepsakes that young people sometimes like to buy during a visit? Well every time a young person purchases something from the shop they’re helping to fund activities and improvements that directly benefit their peers. It’s a seemingly small act that makes a huge difference.

None of this would have happened without the support of our friends and neighbours at Little Lakes Holiday Park, who have allowed us to access their fantastic site "next door" in the Wyre Forest, a short walk from our own grounds. They have given us the warmest welcome, and we're most grateful.

WHY KAYAKING?

Kayaking isn't just fun; delivered well it's full of transferable benefits that ripple far beyond the water:

Confidence & Resilience: Facing new challenges helps pupils push their boundaries and discover what they’re capable of.
Teamwork & Communication: Whether paddling together or supporting each other from the shore, students learn to collaborate and encourage one another.
Focus & Mindfulness: Being on the water requires attention, calm, and presence—skills that translate beautifully into the classroom.
Physical & Mental Wellbeing: Outdoor activity boosts mood, energy, and overall health for both pupils and staff.

BRINGING IT BACK TO SCHOOL

The impact of outdoor education and residential experiences doesn’t end when the trip does. Teachers often tell us how pupils return to school more engaged, more confident, and more connected to their peers. Staff, too, benefit from the shared experience and the chance to see students thrive in a different environment.

If you're planning a residential experience with us, kayaking is now available as part of your programme subject to availability. We'll chat to you about it as we plan the visit.
