AN EPIC JOURNEY FOR A GREAT CAUSE
Dan Jackson and the Plas Gwynant Outdoor Education Centre team are setting out on an incredible adventure from the dramatic hills of Snowdonia to the bustling heart of Sandwell. Covering an impressive 235 km, this journey combines grit, creativity, and purpose.
Starting on 1st September 2025, the expedition will take Dan and Kev on an 80 km cycling stretch from Plas Gwynant Outdoor Education Centre to Llangollen, followed by an unforgettable 155 km voyage on the canal network - all the way to Sandwell - supported on stages by Lucy, Mel, Jeff and the team, and all aboard stand-up paddlboards! The epic trek will conclude on 5th September 2025 at the iconic Sandwell Aquatics Centre, where the team will deliver special stand-up paddleboard sessions to children from Sandwell schools.
Why this challenge matters
This isn’t just a journey; it’s a mission. Dan’s adventure is driven by a commitment to:
Support young people's charities in Sandwell, with funds being raised to support the incredible work of Sandwell Young Carers.
Celebrate the introduction of stand-up paddleboarding and surfing as exciting new activities at Plas Gwynant in 2025/26.
Raise awareness of the benefit of taking part in residential, outdoor and creative arts experiences.
Dan’s journey will showcase and celebrate the transformative power of outdoor adventure, while spotlighting the importance of community spirit and the power of pushing the limits!
THE CHARITY
There are so many wonderful causes, and this year we'll be supporting one that is especially close to our heart.
Sandwell Young Carers is a registered charity set up in 1994 to identify and support children and young people (aged 5-18 years) whose health, education and social lives are affected as a result of caring for a dependent family member. The organisation created the first Young Carers Centre in the country, which became its central base for staff and activities in 2000.
As a Sandwell-based charity they ensure that young carers are recognised and valued, receive support for their caring role, and are safeguarded against taking on responsibilities which jeopardise their well-being and prevent them from achieving their full potential.
